President Paul Kagame challenged African youth delegates to “fight corruption by not participating in it. Aspire to achieve progress by doing decent things”. He made this call during the opening ceremony of the two-day MINDS Annual Youth Dialogue 2014, which is taking place at Hôtel des Mille Collines, and hosted by the Mandela Institute for Development Studies. The conference attracted over 100 young men and women from 43 countries, to discuss their role in electoral and governance process on the continent. The annual youth dialogue is the second conference organized by the Institute and follows the 2013 Ghana Youth Dialogue. The Mandela Institute for Development Studies is a continental institute, which aims to provide a forum for dialogue on African governance and economic development. The dialogue will also examine the challenge of violence associated with African elections in which the youth are “foot soldiers”, as well as the role of new media for positive campaigns leading to the election of candidates.
